How to Descale your Nespresso Creatista

Image of a Black Nespresso Creatista Machine for Original Capsules

Your Nespresso Creatista is great for quick, easy, high-quality coffee when you need it. Therefore, maintaining its health is important to ensure it continues to do so for a long time. Regularly cleaning your machine is easy and doesn't take up too much time.

Have you ever noticed that your coffee tastes slightly off? Then your Nespresso Creatista may need descaling. Descaling is an important aspect of maintenance that only takes around 15 minutes out of your day and we can show you how to do it.

What is Descaling?

Descaling is the process of removing calcium carbonate mineral build-up from the inside of your Nespresso machine. Every time your Creatista is used, the hot water flowing through the machine leaves small deposits of this carbonate that can clog the pipes and cause damage if not treated properly. This build-up can be particularly prevalent in places that use hard water due to a higher concentration of minerals. When you descale your Nespresso Creatista, your machine will be clean, healthy and can produce great coffee again.

How Often Should I Descale My Nespresso Creatista?

Based on your consumption profile and the level of water hardness that you have set in the machine, a descaling alert will trigger when it needs to be descaled. This alert will appear on the display of your machine. If your consumption profile consists primarily of cappuccino, latte macchiato or hot water, the descaling alert will notify you sooner than a profile comprised mainly of regular coffee. Though, like the other Nespresso models, one should descale their Nespresso Creatista every three months or twice a year as a minimum.

What Will I Need?

When descaling your machine, it is recommended that you use a good descaling solution kit. The Urnex Dezcal Activated Scale Remover kit is great for an efficient clean. It’s cheap, non-toxic, biodegradable, safe and works on most machines. For only $3 this will get the job done. You will also need fresh water to mix with the solution and a large container to catch what is expelled.

  • Turn on the machine and allow it to heat up.

Starting the descaling process

  • This step all depends on the machine that is being descaled.

  • To start the process, you need to activate descaling mode on your machine, usually by pressing a series of buttons consecutively or select the option on the display.

  • Once the descaling process has begun, the water tank will drain, flow through the machine, and then dispense into the cup or container you have placed underneath.

  • Once the solution has drained or when told to do so, repeat the process with the used solution.

Rinsing my Nespresso machine

  • Once completed, empty the water tank and rinse it out making sure it is devoid of any solution.

  • Refill the water tank with fresh water and restart the process for a third and final time, emptying the tank completely.

  • Dispose of the water.

Exiting descaling mode

  • Again, depending on the machine being used, press the required buttons on your Nespresso machine in order to exit descaling mode. Some machines will turn off automatically indicating that it has exited descaling model.

Now, your Nespresso machine has been descaled and is ready to make amazing coffees again.

You want all sorts of exquisite foods, prepared to unimaginably high standards, served with the finest wines and spirits on the entire planet. It follows that if you want coffee after your meal, you want the best. At hundreds of Michelin-starred restaurants around the world, what you’ll actually get is coffee that comes from a metallic pod. In fact, Nespresso is increasingly common at high-end restaurants, and the group is pushing hard to make sure use of its machines becomes even more ubiquitous. And discerning chefs are more than happy with the arrangement.
